I think that good note-making is widely considered a standard for success in AP classes. One reason for it being, is because it can help students review/understand a reading.Especially because it's easy for the student to understand, because it's written themselves. Questions would be answered, student's can get the main idea of the topic. Also, it's beneficial to students as a study guide.

Activity 3.4 - Reflections on Note-making:
  • What do you think of our note-making model?
I think the note-making model is simple and easy. It's not as long as the frequently used 2-column notes - which consists of excessive notes that aren't needed.
  • Did our instructions help you better understand how to make notes?
Yes, especially the site with help on paraphrasing and summarizing. The instructions are easy to follow: "Read chunks by chunks and summarize/paraphrase" and the other notes are basically self-explanatory.
  • Do you feel that after using these note-making strategies you have a better understanding of the text than if you had just read it? Why or why not?
I feel that after using these note-making strategies helped be better my understanding. Mainly because as I'm reading, I get somewhat an understanding of the text, then to do the notes, I would have to re-read as many times as I could to take down the most important pieces of information. Also, with these strategies, I'm able to summarize and paraphrase into short simplistic sentences to my own benefits.
  • Which of the Note-Making Essentials did you struggle the most with? Why?
In my point of view, the essential that I struggled the most with was making connections. Simply, I'm just horrible at making connections.
